Welcome to Big Dog Month!
Pets In Need has designated November as Big Dog Month at our shelters to celebrate our large breed pups a bit extra and help them find their forever homes.
All dogs who weigh 35 pounds or more will have their weight subtracted from our adoption fee ($150), plus they will be sent home with a brand new leash and harness!
Did you know that big dogs are more vulnerable to being put down than smaller dogs?
Big dogs are slower to get adopted and at greater risk of being put down for a variety of reasons, including breed restrictions that prohibit many apartment residents from having large-breed dogs.
Pets In Need created our Cause for Big Paws program in 2019 specifically to save big dogs from being put down. Through CBP, Pets In Need takes in dogs from shelters in the Central Valley and East Bay that may have less capacity to house big dogs because of financial or space constraints. We either care for them at our shelter or place them with foster families until they are adopted.
