join our pet food drive

At Pets In Need, we like to lead with gratitude and thanks—thank you for helping us help wonderful pets (and their people) in the Bay Area! As a nonprofit, we rely heavily on community support. Pet food donations and towels, Amazon Wish List items, and Pet Supply Drives go a long way in helping us provide much-needed food and supplies to animals and families who depend on us year-round. 

We are currently most in need of new, unopened pet food for dogs, cats, and bunnies. Please be sure to double check the expiration dates. We cannot accept prescription food. 

If you’d like to donate your used items, we suggest contacting our friends at Humane Society Silicon Valley, or your local SPCA, Salvation Army, or Goodwill.

Pet food can be dropped off during our open hours at both our Redwood City and Palo Alto shelters. Please place your donation inside the food donation bin by the front door.

Shop and ship online

Pet supplies are helpful, too! Due to storage shortages, we are only able to accept in-kind donations that are purchased directly from our Amazon Wishlist or Chewy Wishlist at this time. These Wish Lists are curated by our Animal Care and Outreach teams to identify specific items we need urgently.

Organize a Fundraiser

You can help us meet our greatest needs by organizing a fundraiser! Create a personalized online fundraising page and collect donations from friends and family near and far. As always, 100% of donations go to the Pets In Need fund allowing our Animal Care and Outreach teams to purchase new pet supplies and the right pet food for each animal in our care. For questions about how to get started with your fundraiser, please contact us at Give@petsinneed.org or call (650) 367-1405, Ext. 118.

+ Can I donate supplies or toys?

Yes! Thank you so much for your generosity. You can donate supplies through our Amazon Wishlist online. This allows us to ensure the safety of items we collect. Due to storage limitations, we can only accept items that we know our animals and community members need most.

+ Which items are you currently accepting?

We have such a generous community of supporters like you and we could not fulfill our mission without you. However, the substantial volume of in-kind donations has presented logistical and financial challenges. At this time we can only accept the following items that address our essential needs. Thank you for your understanding! 

  • Unopened, unexpired, non-prescription, non-refrigerated cat food

+ Can I donate prescription pet food?

Unfortunately, we are unable to accept prescription pet food. We recommend calling other private rescue groups or reaching out to Alum Rock Animal Hospital.

+ I have pet medication. Can I donate that?

Thank you for thinking of us. We can accept pet medication on a case-by-case basis. Please email us at MedicalDonations@PetsInNeed.org.

+ I’m interested in hosting a Pet Food Drive! Who can I talk to?
