Meet Honey, a beautiful Treeing Walker Coon Hound mix who’s ready to find her forever home! With her silly antics and cuddly nature, Honey is a playful bundle of joy who brings love and laughter wherever she goes. Although her time at the shelter has taken a toll on her mental health, despite that her sweet and sociable spirit shines through.
Honey is a high-energy girl who needs a home where she can roam freely and get plenty of exercise. She thrives on runs, hikes, rigorous play, and scent enrichment activities. Bred to hunt foxes by scent, Honey has a strong instinct to follow her nose, so obedience training is essential for her breed. This training requires patience and skill, as Foxhounds can be independent and occasionally stubborn. Once Honey picks up a scent, she may ignore commands and focus solely on her pursuit, so it’s important to keep her safe on a leash.
Honey would thrive best as the only dog in the household, where her affectionate personality can truly shine. She may take some time to warm up to visitors, but once she does, you’ll find her flopping over for belly rubs, eagerly seeking affection from anyone who walks by.
Honey does well with older kids who can engage with her energy, but due to her breed, she may see crawling children as playmates. She needs a loving family who can help her navigate her excitement and provide the guidance she needs during her high-energy moments.
Some areas where Honey needs support include:
Potty Training: She’s learning, but consistent reinforcement will help her succeed.
Loose Leash Walking: Honey is a strong girl, and she could use some practice to walk politely on a leash.
Managing High Energy Moments: Helping her calm down during bursts of excitement will be key.
Reactivity on Walks: She can be vocal when she encounters triggers during her outdoor adventures, so training will help her respond better.
Vocalization: As a hound, Honey has a natural inclination to bark and howl, especially when she’s frustrated. While her vocal nature is part of her charm, training can help manage her responses to triggers.
