Three reasons to adopt Valerie
Healthy, active senior dogs like Valerie are special to us here at Pets In Need, and so are the people who take a chance on them. The golden years are a sweet time in a dog’s life, and it’s a privilege to be a part of them.
If you’re thinking of adding a dog to your family, please don’t look past Valerie. We rescued this spry 7-lb chihuahua mix from a public shelter in the Central Valley. While we don’t know how this 14-year-old girl became a stray (and she’s not telling), we do know she’s a spunky, affectionate dog who still has a lot of giddy-up. She would make a great pet for a number of reasons -- here are just a few:
She’s happy to mentor first-time pet owners
If you’ve never owned a dog before, there’s a lot to learn. Training a young dog can be frustrating and time-consuming. With Valerie, you can skip all that and go straight to the fun part! Because she’s been a pet before, Valerie will be ready on day one. She doesn’t need much more than a warm, comfortable place to sleep and regular walks -- though she wouldn’t say no to daily ear scratches and a few dog treats.
She’s a low drama girl
With age comes wisdom. Here is a short list of things Valerie is good at: walking on a leash, curling up in laps, staying away from shoes, keeping calm in new situations and when left home alone. In other words, life with Valerie offers all of the benefits of dog ownership, with very few hassles.
She’s in great health
When Valerie came to us, she was a little skinny, a little deaf, and long overdue for some dental maintenance. In the weeks she’s spent at Pets In Need, we’ve cleaned her teeth and spoiled her with lots of love, good food, and regular exercise. While she can’t hear as well as a puppy, she’s looking and feeling great.
Valerie is available for foster to adopt. Foster to adopt is a great way to learn if one of our animals is a good fit for your family prior to committing to adoption. When you foster to adopt, you have a short period of time to get to know the animal and make up your mind. To learn more, email jweinstock@petsinneed.org.
