Pets In Need staff invited to attend Maddie's Fund training programs

Cortney Martin, medical clinic manager at our Redwood City shelter, attended a prestigious three-day apprenticeship program hosted by the non-profit Austin Pets Alive!, earlier this month.

The program, which is focused on developing medical protocols, disease control, managing staff, working with vets and more, was held in Austin, Texas.

Martin was awarded a scholarship to attend the program by Maddie’s Fund, a national foundation that supports animal welfare.

“I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to participate in the apprenticeship program with Austin Pets Alive! and Maddie’s Fund,” Martin said. “My colleagues and I spent our days focused on meeting the immediate needs of the animals that come through our shelter. This program gave me an opportunity to take a step back, think critically about our protocols and systems, and consider the ways we might grow and improve.”

Martin said she is excited to share what she learned with the team.

Another Pets In Need staff member, Foster Program Coordinator Crystal Manning, was invited by Maddie’s Fund to attend an apprenticeship focused on managing a neonatal kitten nursery. The program takes place in April.
