Sookie Gained Her Sight Back. Now She Needs A Home.

Sookie has had a rough childhood.

We rescued her last summer from a high-kill shelter in the Central Valley. At the time, she wasn’t quite a year.

We delivered Sookie to our Redwood City shelter where she was spayed and placed up for adoption.

She quickly proved to be a loving and loyal friend who enjoys a good walk.

Meanwhile, our team began noticing strange behaviors that indicated Sookie was having trouble seeing.

We took Sookie to a specialist who diagnosed her with bi-lateral cataracts, which is uncommon in young dogs but can result in total blindness by age 2 or 3.

Fortunately for Sookie, bi-lateral cataracts in a dog is a highly treatable condition.

This kind-hearted girl was wheeled into an operating room last fall, and given the surgery she needed. She spent six weeks in a foster home recovering, and now she is raring to go into a permanent home.

It’s taken some time to find Sookie a welcoming home. That’s probably because she has to take eye medication daily, and must visit her doctor twice annually. But we can help with that! In fact, Pets In Need will cover the cost of Sookie’s eye treatment for the remainder of her life.

Now take another look at Sookie’s photo. Isn’t this a face you’d like to wake up to every day?!

Update: Sookie is currently in a foster home, and her foster family is considering making the relationship permanent through our Foster-to-Adopt program. If you are interested in Sookie please let us know, so that we can keep you updated on her status.
