> When can I do Doggy Day Out?
- We are only able to offer Doggy Day Out 9:15am - 12:30pm, Sunday-Friday. We ask that you keep the dog out for the entire 3 hours to give them adequate time away from the shelter.
> After signing up, when will I hear from Pets In Need?
- The day before your chosen date(s), you will receive an email from us between 4-6pm with information on the dog you are taking and which shelter you'll pick them up at.
- Please note because the population of dogs changes day to day, we may have to cancel your Doggy Day Out if there are no dogs available to go. If we need to cancel, we will inform you the day before your field trip date.
- If you are no longer able to attend the day you signed up for, please cancel as soon as possible so we can find a substitute and our dogs aren't left disappointed.
> Which shelter do I go to?
- Your field trip will start at either 3281 E Bayshore Rd, Palo Alto or 871 5th Avenue, Redwood City (depending on at which shelter the dog is staying). A day or two before your selected Doggy Day Out day, you will receive an email with your assigned dog and their shelter.
> Where can I take my dog?
- The only place you cannot take your shelter buddy is the dog park or any off-leash areas. When outside your home, always keep your shelter buddy on a leash.
> Can I bring my children?
- Children 5-years-old and over are welcome to join! We only ask that the adult (18 and over) be responsible for the dog. Children under the age of 16 may not hold the leash.
> Can I bring my own dog?
- For everyone's safety, we ask that you leave your dog at home. If you plan to take your shelter buddy to your home, keep them separate from your own pets. If you're going out, do not introduce your shelter buddy to any other dogs.
> Can I choose which dog I take?
- Participants don't select dogs, they are chosen by staff based on who needs an outing the most. We won't send you with a dog you're not comfortable with, but note that we won't always have small dogs available.
> Do I need to bring my own supplies?
- Participants will be supplied with the equipment needed for their day out. We have dog bowls, car seat harnesses, leashes, poop bags, treats, and water bottle.
