SURRENDERING TO PETS IN NEED
Pets In Need accepts owner surrenders from residents of Palo Alto, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills.
To surrender your pet, follow these steps:
Fill out and submit a Request to Surrender Form and a Pet Personality Profile.
Your application will be reviewed by Pets In Need staff within 24 to 48 hours of receipt.
You may be contacted by phone or email to discuss your pet’s history and needs.
Eligibility
To be eligible to surrender an animal, you must:
Be a resident of Palo Alto, Los Altos, or Los Altos Hills
Be 18 years or older
Serve as the primary caretaker or guardian of the animal
When your appointment is booked, we ask that you bring the following when dropping off the pet:
All available vaccination and medical records
Proof that you are the caretaker of the animal (adoption contract, rabies certificate, medical records, or a note from your vet confirming that you are the caregiver)
In cases where the pet’s primary caretaker passed away, we require verbal or written confirmation that the next of kin has been notified of the plan to surrender the animal.
