Big Dogs, Bigger Hearts—Adopt Today!
October is Cause for Big Paws Month!
Our Cause for Big Paws program is dedicated to saving at-risk large-breed dogs and raising awareness about the importance of adopting them. To celebrate, we're reducing adoption fees to just $50 for all adult dogs (6 months and older) weighing over 35 lbs throughout the entire month of October!
Big dogs face more challenges finding loving homes, but you can help change that. By adopting, you’re not only gaining a loyal companion, you’re also saving a life!
Join us in celebrating Cause for Big Paws Month—adopt today and give these gentle giants the love and home they deserve!
Pet of the week: Crow
Meet Crow, a female lab mix with tons of potential and love to give! After board and train, she’s made great strides in manners and enjoys training exercises like "Find-its" and "Watch Me." Crow loves fetch, puzzle toys, and structured activities to stay calm. She’s a playful gal who is looking for a patient, experienced guardian who will encourage calm, positive behaviors.
Ready for a loyal companion eager to learn and grow? Crow is waiting for you!
Become a foster parent
We’re seeking compassionate individuals to open their homes and hearts to shelter pets in need. By fostering, you provide a temporary loving environment that helps pets transition smoothly to their forever families. You’ll receive support from our team, including supplies and guidance, and experience the joy of watching your foster pet thrive.
Whether you can foster a dog, cat, or small animal, your contribution makes a significant difference. Join us in making a positive impact—apply to become a foster guardian today and help give shelter pets a brighter future!
Low-cost vaccine clinic
Stop by our Palo Alto shelter every Wednesday from 9:30 am to 11:30 am for low-cost vaccines and flea preventative care.
Space fills up quickly so we recommend arriving by 10 am to ensure your pets are seen the same day. If the clinic fills up early, we may not be able to see all clients until the following week.
For further details, visit Vaccine Clinic.

What we do
As a 501(c) 3 non-profit animal shelter, we transfer in dogs and cats from public shelters where they are in danger of being euthanized due to space or financial limitations. We then provide them with the best possible care and enrichment until we can help them find their forever homes.

Get Involved
As a non-profit organization, everything we do is made possible through donations of funds, supplies, and time from members of the community. There are many ways to support Pets In Need, including fostering, volunteering and donating cash or in-kind gifts that help us carry out our life-saving mission.
Volunteer your time
We are constantly in search of animal lovers to join our volunteer team and help socialize, exercise, and train our dogs and cats.
Make a Donation
Gifts from the general public are our lifeblood. They allow us to provide our animals with essential care. We are totally supported by private gifts, adoption, and program fees.
